Detailed Review
The ZEXORA Magnetic Wooden Chess Set is a compact 12-inch folding game board designed for players who want a reliable, travel-ready set. By integrating magnets directly into the pieces and replacing metal hardware with a hidden closure, this set solves the common problem of pieces sliding around on the move or latches scratching up furniture.
Instead of traditional exterior metal latches, the board utilizes a clasp-free magnetic closure that snaps shut firmly. This design keeps your belongings and tabletops safe from scratches when storing or packing the board. Inside, each wooden piece rests in its own dedicated molded slot, preventing parts from rattling together or getting lost between matches.
The handcrafted wooden pieces feature built-in magnets paired with soft felt bottoms. These magnets provide enough hold to keep pieces upright and aligned during road trips or casual games, while the felt minimizes play noise and protects the walnut burl pattern surface. The set also includes two extra queens, making pawn promotions straightforward without needing makeshift substitutes.
In terms of trade-offs, the compact 12-inch footprint and 2.5-inch king make this set portable, but it is smaller than standard regulation tournament boards. Additionally, while the board features a walnut burl pattern finish and quality wooden components, the listing does not specify the exact species of wood used in construction.
Verdict: The ZEXORA Magnetic Wooden Chess Set is a solid pick for casual players, commuters, and families seeking a neat, portable board. It offers dependable piece stability, thoughtful interior organization, and a clean latch-free design for everyday travel.
