Detailed Review
The ELONGDI 15-inch Wooden Chess Set offers a full-sized playing experience that folds down for travel and home storage. It solves the common frustration of shifted pieces during on-the-go play, making it a reliable option for beginners, experienced players, and families who want a portable wooden board.
Magnetism is integrated directly into both the wooden board surface and each individual chess piece. Coupled with felted bottoms, the pieces stay firmly planted during matches, resisting movement even on bumpy car rides or if the board is turned upside down. The board itself features a polished wood build with a walnut color scheme and rounded corners that help resist impact damage.
When you finish playing, the 15.4 by 15.35-inch playing area folds in half into a compact 15.4 by 7.68 by 2-inch storage box. Inside, molded sponge slots provide a dedicated spot for every piece, preventing the wood from scuffing or bumping around during transit. Two sweat-resistant metal latches on the exterior ensure the case stays shut when packed into a bag.
Because this set uses real wood and internal foam cutouts, it requires a bit more storage thickness (2 inches folded) than flat roll-up mats. Additionally, while the listing specifies a walnut coloring design, it does not state the exact species of base wood used. The set also includes extra queens to accommodate pawn promotions without needing improvised pieces.
Verdict: The ELONGDI 15-inch set is a practical choice for anyone wanting the feel of polished wooden chess pieces without sacrificing travel convenience. Its secure magnetic grip and individual foam storage make it ideal for game nights, outdoor play, and mobile matches.
