Detailed Review
The Hurdaos 17-inch Magnetic Wooden Chess Set is a full-sized, folding board designed for players who want a classic wooden feel without worrying about knocked-over pieces. Crafted from smooth walnut and maple, it suits learners, tournament players, and families looking for a portable game that works just as well on a living room table as it does on the go.
The standout feature is the magnetic Staunton design. Strong built-in magnets hold the handcrafted wooden pieces firmly against the board, so accidental bumps, tilted surfaces, or outdoor breezes will not ruin your game. Each piece features a felt bottom to protect the polished wood from scratches, and the set includes 34 total pieces, giving you two extra queens for standard pawn promotion rules.
When the game is over, the board folds in half along sturdy brass hinges to double as a self-contained storage case. The interior features fitted foam inserts that hold each piece individually, stopping items from rattling around or getting lost. Snaps along the edge keep the case closed securely when carried.
Keep in mind that at four pounds, this set has some heft compared to lightweight plastic travel sets. Its folded size of 17 by 8.5 by 2 inches also takes up noticeable room inside a backpack, so it is better suited for deliberate travel or home use rather than ultra-compact packing.
Verdict: This set is an excellent choice for anyone who wants a handsome, full-scale wooden chess set with the stability of magnetic pieces. It offers dependable storage and classic craftsmanship that works well for both casual learners and serious enthusiasts.
