Detailed Review
The Kvintes 17-Inch Wooden Chess Set is a full-sized folding set built for adults, home game rooms, and club play. By pairing a generously sized board with carved solid wood pieces, it provides a dedicated playing surface that keeps pieces from feeling cramped during deep tactical battles.
The board measures 17 inches across, which gives the squares enough room to improve visibility and ease eye strain during extended games. Each chess piece is hand-carved from solid wood with smooth edges and a balanced weight. The King stands at 3.5 inches tall for a clear, identifiable presence, and the set includes two extra queens so pawn promotions can happen without substituting random markers.
For storage, the board folds in half and serves as a carrying case. Inside, custom compartments secure every piece in its own individual slot, keeping them organized and preventing them from knocking together or getting lost when packed away.
Keep in mind that this is a completely non-magnetic set, which delivers an authentic traditional playing experience but means pieces will slide if the board is bumped or used on an uneven lap. The listing also does not mention specific wood species or whether felt pads are attached to the bases of the pieces.
Verdict: This set is an excellent choice for casual players, club members, and anyone wanting a handsome, full-scale wooden chess set with built-in piece storage and extra promotion queens.
