Detailed Review
The Manya Cynus is a folding electronic chess board featuring a physical robotic arm that moves pieces directly on the board. Built for players who want to practice without staring at a screen, this board bridges digital training tools and real-world play for anyone from beginners to experienced club players.
Its stand-out functionality comes from the integrated Stockfish engine, which delivers 8 selectable skill levels calibrated for ratings between 800 and 2500. A built-in visual piece recognition system detects moves as you make them, giving you the freedom to set up custom endgames or resume previous matches instantly without manual board resets. You can also pick between a relaxed mode with expressive animations or a timed tournament mode.
Portability is a central focus of the hardware design. The unit folds down to 12 by 9.6 by 4.6 inches and runs on an internal 2000mAh rechargeable battery, providing up to 10 hours of cordless play with standard USB-C charging. For online matchups and analysis, an open Bluetooth protocol connects directly to external platforms including Chess.com, Lichess, Lucas Chess, and Fritz.
When weighing this purchase, keep in mind that the unit contains motorized components designed for users aged 8 and older, so it requires mindful handling compared to solid wooden sets. It also relies on regular USB-C recharging once the 10-hour battery cycle runs down.
Verdict: The Manya Cynus is a well-rounded training tool for chess enthusiasts, students, and travelers who want an authentic, board-based opponent anywhere they go. It offers an engaging, screen-free way to practice against AI or online rivals.
