Detailed Review
The Sangean WR-55 50th Anniversary Edition is an analog tabletop radio built into an acoustically tuned wooden cabinet. It brings together traditional AM and FM terrestrial broadcast reception with modern Bluetooth 5.0 streaming, making it a versatile audio centerpiece for a living room, office, or bedside table.
Audio is handled by a built-in 2-way speaker system that pairs a dedicated woofer with a midrange driver. The wooden enclosure supports the acoustics, while onboard tone controls let you adjust the sound balance to your liking. A color LED indicator clearly shows which input mode is active at any given moment.
Operating the radio centers around an analog dial scale equipped with an adjustable backlight for easy viewing in various lighting conditions. Tuning is designed to be soft and precise, and the unit includes external AM and FM antenna connections on the rear panel to assist with signal reception alongside its DC-in, DC-out, AUX-in, and headphone ports.
Because this model focuses on an authentic analog dial experience, it does not include digital display readouts or push-button station presets. It also operates via a DC power input rather than an internal rechargeable battery, requiring an outlet nearby for regular listening.
Verdict: The Sangean WR-55 is an excellent choice for listeners who appreciate classic analog tuning paired with the convenience of Bluetooth streaming. It offers a well-built wooden design, dedicated tone shaping, and flexible input options for everyday radio and music playback.
