DEWALT 60V Cordless String Trimmer with Battery & Charger Included, 17 Inch, Attachment Capable (DCST972X1)

The DEWALT 60V Cordless String Trimmer with Battery & Charger Included (DCST972X1) is designed to handle demanding lawn maintenance without the hassle of a power cord or gasoline mixing. Built around a 60V battery platform and a high-performance brushless motor, this tool provides the power needed to clear thick grass, tough weeds, and overgrown edges quickly. It offers a practical solution for property owners who want heavy-duty trimming performance paired with the convenience of a battery-powered system.

A standout aspect of this trimmer is its versatility. It features universal attachment capability, allowing it to accept additional compatible tool pieces to expand your equipment setup over time. For trimming operations, you can switch between a 15-inch and a 17-inch cutting swath depending on whether you need tighter control or maximum coverage. The head uses a 0.080-inch dual line setup out of the box, but it is also compatible with DEWALT 0.095-inch line when extra durability is needed for heavier cutting tasks.

Controlling power output is simple thanks to the variable speed trigger and hi/lo speed control switch. You can drop into low speed to conserve battery runtime when working around delicate garden beds, or switch to high speed when powering through dense patches of weeds. When line runs low, the quick-load spool mechanism speeds up the re-spooling process so you can get back to work without tedious winding delays.

As with any powerful yard tool, there are a few practical trade-offs to keep in mind. Because this is a 60V tool, running continuously on the high speed setting will naturally drain the battery faster than operating in low power mode. Additionally, while the attachment system adds flexibility, any extra tool attachments must be acquired separately based on your specific yard care requirements.

Verdict: This 60V string trimmer is a solid choice for homeowners and maintenance workers who need serious cutting power, wide swath flexibility, and attachment expansion. If you want a capable battery-operated trimmer that comes complete with a battery and charger, this model delivers great performance and adaptable features for your outdoor routine.

A great fit if you:

• Need a heavy-duty battery string trimmer that includes both the battery and charger right in the box.
• Want the flexibility to change your cutting path between 15 inches and 17 inches based on lawn density and space tight spots.
• Plan to expand your yard care gear using universal tool attachments on a single power head platform.
• Prefer simple line replacements using a quick-load spool mechanism for continuous outdoor work.

Consider something else if you:

• Only have a very small lawn section to touch up and do not need a high-power 60V tool platform.
• Already own alternative power platform batteries and chargers that do not match this 60V battery unit.

Confirm on the listing:

• Check that the package explicitly includes the 60V battery and compatible charger as listed in the model bundle.
• Review which additional tool pieces or attachments are supported by the universal attachment capability.
• Verify if extra replacement line in 0.080-inch or 0.095-inch diameter is included or needs to be purchased separately.
• Confirm the physical weight of the assembled tool with the battery installed to ensure comfortable handling for your routine.

How to compare your options: When evaluating heavy-duty cordless trimmers, look closely at cutting swath adjustability, motor type, and battery compatibility. This model provides a dual 15-inch and 17-inch width powered by a brushless motor, giving you control over speed and runtime. Consider whether you prefer a single-purpose trimmer or an attachment-capable base system that can adapt to multiple tasks across your yard care routine.

Start by charging the included battery fully according to the manufacturer instructions before your first trimming session. Check that the trimmer line is properly seated in the quick-load spool to ensure smooth line feeding while operating.

Use the hi/lo speed control switch strategically during use. Selecting the lower speed setting for general edging and light grass trimming helps maximize your battery runtime, while the high speed mode should be saved for heavy weed patches and thick growth.

If you plan to switch between line sizes, verify that you are using recommended DEWALT 0.080-inch or 0.095-inch trimmer line. When connecting optional tool pieces to the universal attachment coupler, ensure each attachment is firmly locked in place before starting the tool. After completing your yard work, clean away grass clippings and dirt from the cutting head, motor housing, and battery contacts prior to storage.
