Detailed Review
The Targus 17 Inch Dual Fan Lap Chill Mat provides active cooling and an ergonomic work surface for laptop users. Designed specifically to rest directly on your lap, it creates a physical barrier while helping lower laptop temperatures during extended computing sessions.
Cooling is handled by dual internal fans that draw power directly from your computer using a standard USB-A connection. The top surface features an open mesh design that lets air flow freely away from your device, while four built-in rubber stops keep your laptop stable and prevent it from shifting around as you type.
For everyday comfort, the bottom of the mat is lined with soft neoprene material that cushions your legs while you work from a couch or chair. The integrated ergonomic tilt elevates the back of your laptop, creating an angled typing surface that promotes a more natural position for your hands and wrists.
A notable limitation is the power method: because the dual fans rely on a standard USB-A plug, computers with only USB-C connections will need a separate adapter. Additionally, the manufacturer specifications do not provide the exact fan speeds, noise levels, or weight of the mat.
Verdict: The Targus Dual Fan Chill Mat is a straightforward, functional choice for anyone who frequently uses a 17-inch or smaller laptop directly on their lap. It offers reliable active ventilation combined with comfortable cushioning for daily use.
