Are you an expectant mother searching for the best nursery glider to give you and your baby maximum comfort? A nursery glider is a rocking chair specifically designed for parents to relax with their baby, and since you'll spend a lot of time in it, comfort matters more than it might for an ordinary chair.
The nursery is the first world of the child, so a glider that helps you rock your baby to sleep, breastfeed, and read that first book together is one of the most essential pieces in the room.
How to Identify the Best Nursery Glider
There are a few basic qualities a reliable nursery glider should have. We looked at these qualities when narrowing down our picks below:
- User reviews: high ratings from real parents
- Safety: stable frame and non-toxic materials
- Durability: a frame built to hold up to daily use for years
- Comfort: padding and support for long feeding and rocking sessions
- Affordability: fits a realistic nursery budget
- Rocking motion: smooth, quiet glide
Top Nursery Gliders
daVinci Olive 360° Swivel Glider Chair with Storage Ottoman
This daVinci glider is free from chemical flame retardants and built on a metal base that allows smooth swiveling and gentle gliding. The metal structure also makes it one of the more durable gliders around, and the heathered polyester fabric wipes clean easily, which matters for everyday use in a nursery.
It's fully padded for comfort, with a high back and a lumbar pillow that supports the lower back, so it works well for both tall and short parents, and the included storage ottoman adds a place to relax your feet during long feeding sessions.
- Safety: flame-retardant-chemical-free, stable metal base
- Durability: metal frame, wipeable heathered polyester fabric
- Comfort: full padding, high back with lumbar pillow, includes ottoman
DaVinci Carter's Arlo Glider Recliner Nursery Chair
A step up in price, this Carter's-branded DaVinci recliner adds full recline to the usual glide-and-swivel motion, which is a real help during middle-of-the-night feeds when you want to lean back rather than sit fully upright. The water- and stain-resistant fabric is a practical touch for a room where spit-up is a fact of life.
- Safety: stable base with 360° swivel and locking positions
- Durability: water- and stain-resistant performance fabric
- Comfort: full recline function in addition to glide and swivel
Storkcraft Premium Hoop Glider & Ottoman
With well over 20,000 ratings on Amazon, this is one of the most reviewed nursery gliders you can buy, and it holds a strong overall rating to match. It's made of solid, seasoned wood with metal enclosed bearings for a smooth glide, plus a brake system that locks it in place at different positions.
The included ottoman is spacious, the whole chair is padded for comfort, and there are two side pockets for stashing books, toys, or other nursery supplies within reach. It also comes in at a lower price than the two DaVinci picks above, making it the most affordable option here.
- Safety: solid wood frame, metal enclosed bearings, multi-position brake system
- Durability: seasoned solid wood construction
- Comfort: full padding, spacious ottoman, two side storage pockets
Conclusion
A glider is one of the things you'll want in your nursery, since it gives you a comfortable, dedicated spot to care for your baby. All three picks above include an ottoman, so you'll have somewhere to rest your feet during long stretches of rocking or feeding. Before buying, weigh the factors above against your budget, and don't forget to consider how the color and style will fit with the rest of your nursery decor. If you want the highest print of real user reviews backing your purchase, the Storkcraft Premium Hoop Glider is hard to beat; if you want the extra comfort of a full recline, the DaVinci Carter's Arlo is worth the higher price.
