Detailed Review
The Lumtide Black Shelf Light kit provides warm white 2700K illumination designed for bookcases, display cabinets, floating shelves, and curio units. Featuring black V-shaped housings, these fixtures blend naturally into dark shelving units to deliver clean, dot-free COB linear lighting without distracting hardware.
Control options are versatile, offering app integration via the Surplife app alongside compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Once connected to a 2.4 GHz WiFi network, you can adjust brightness levels, set schedules, use a music sync feature, or pick from 8 built-in lighting modes. The system also supports IFTTT for broader home automation routines.
For everyday physical operation, the kit includes a 2.4G remote that works through walls. It features smooth dimming, timer scheduling, and a memory function that saves your last used mode and brightness level between power cycles. The physical V-shape gives you mounting flexibility: point the light inward along the front edge for indirect, glare-reduced lighting, or face it outward on the inner edge to spotlight collectibles.
One limitation to keep in mind is network compatibility, as the smart features require a 2.4 GHz WiFi band and will not connect over 5 GHz networks. The lighting is also fixed at a warm 2700K color temperature, so it will not produce cool white or multi-color light outside of its preset operating modes.
Verdict: This Lumtide kit is a solid choice for anyone wanting smart, dimmable accent lighting for dark shelving or display cases. It offers convenient voice and remote control options along with all necessary extension cables and mounting accessories for a tidy setup.
