Detailed Review
The GL.iNet GL-BE3600 Slate 7 is a compact Wi-Fi 7 travel router designed to bring fast, encrypted networking to hotels, cruise ships, and remote workspaces. It gives frequent travelers and network enthusiasts a way to manage connections securely on the go without relying solely on unprotected public networks.
Equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi 7 technology, the router offers wireless speeds up to 688 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and 2882 Mbps on the 5 GHz band. For wired needs, it includes two 2.5G Ethernet ports (one WAN and one LAN) alongside a USB 3.0 port. The built-in touchscreen display simplifies daily operation by allowing you to scan QR codes for fast Wi-Fi access, monitor live transfer speeds, toggle security tools, and check color-coded status indicators across Ethernet, Cellular, Tethering, and Repeater modes.
Security and custom networking are core strengths of the device. It comes with OpenVPN and WireGuard pre-installed, supporting simultaneous VPN client and server cascading so you can reach home network devices like local printers while browsing privately. OpenWrt 23.05 (Kernel 5.4.213) firmware paired with 512MB of storage allows you to install extra plugins and configure advanced settings. Network privacy is backed by WPA3 encryption, IPv6 support, and DNS over HTTPS or DNS over TLS.
When planning your setup, keep in mind that the touch-screen toggle button is set to have no function by default and requires configuration before it can control VPNs or AdGuard Home. High-speed VPN throughput reaches up to 540 Mbps on WireGuard and 100 Mbps on OpenVPN in local tests, and third-party VPN usage requires an active paid account.
