Detailed Review
The Disney and Pixar 'Up' House (set 43217) is a 598-piece construction kit that brings the beloved animated home to life for Disney fans, movie buffs, and kids ages 9 and up. It provides an engaging building activity that turns recognizable cinema moments into a colorful model suitable for both play and display.
The build centers around a partial house topped with balloons, offering different rooms, functions, and accessories that encourage open creative play. Included character figures make the scene complete: you get Carl Fredricksen and Russell minifigures, along with a Dug dog figure, allowing you to recreate scenes on land or imagine journeys through the clouds.
Builders can assemble the set using the LEGO Builder app, an intuitive digital guide that lets users zoom in, rotate models in 3D, track their step-by-step progress, and save sets online. Released as one of a limited number of building sets created to celebrate Disney's 100th anniversary, it serves as a collectible keepsake for adult hobbyists as well as an imaginative play set for older children.
As a design trade-off, note that the structure is a partial house build rather than a fully enclosed four-sided building, which allows open access to the interior rooms. Additionally, because the set is tailored for ages 9 and older with several small accessories, it is not suited for younger builders who need simpler assemblies.
Verdict: This set is an excellent choice for Disney collectors, movie enthusiasts, and kids aged 9 and older who want an iconic build featuring Carl, Russell, and Dug. It delivers a memorable tribute to the film with plenty of character and interactive building support.
