Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD PCI Express TV Tuner Card 1609

The Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD 1609 is an internal PCI Express TV tuner card designed for desktop computer users who want to watch and record broadcast television. By putting four separate tuners onto a single card, it solves the problem of scheduling conflicts, making it a capable centerpiece for a Windows-based media center or digital video recorder setup.

Its standout capability is the four-tuner architecture, allowing you to watch, pause, or record up to four distinct unencrypted ATSC antenna channels or clear QAM cable channels at the exact same time. The included WinTV v10 desktop software gives you total control over this flexibility, offering windowed or full-screen viewing alongside a four-channel picture-in-picture mode to keep tabs on several broadcasts at once.

Managing your recording schedule is handled directly inside the software thanks to an electronic program guide and timer function. You can set up one-off recordings for specific events or automate daily and weekly captures. Hauppauge also bundles a physical remote control and an IR sensor cable, so you do not have to rely solely on your mouse and keyboard to navigate channels.

As for limitations, this card requires an internal PCI Express slot in a Windows desktop running Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7. Reception of clear QAM cable TV depends entirely on your specific provider, as not all cable operators broadcast unencrypted channels, which may require checking with your service provider beforehand.

Verdict: The Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD is an excellent option for Windows PC users looking to build a multi-channel DVR or watch multiple live antenna broadcasts at once. It provides a complete hardware and software package for power users needing serious tuner capacity.

A great fit if you:

• Want to record multiple broadcast channels at the same time on your Windows PC
• Need four-channel picture-in-picture viewing on a single desktop screen
• Use an over-the-air antenna for unencrypted ATSC television signals
• Prefer having an included physical remote control and IR sensor for media playback

Consider something else if you:

• Use an operating system other than Windows 7, 8, 10, or 11
• Rely on a cable provider that does not broadcast unencrypted clear QAM signals
• Do not have a free PCI Express slot inside your computer
