Detailed Review
The Gerber E-Tool Tactical Folding Spade is a compact entrenching tool built for camping, hunting, gardening, and work site tasks. It gives outdoor enthusiasts and tradesmen a durable digging tool that packs down small without adding bulk to a pack or truck box.
The build centers on a powder-coated carbon steel head paired with an anodized aluminum shaft. This combination offers rugged digging strength while keeping the total weight at 2 pounds. A built-in serrated edge on the blade provides extra cutting utility for roots and rough terrain. To ensure the shovel stays rigid during use, an integrated locking mechanism secures the tool in place for reliable stability.
For handling, the spade features a glass-filled nylon grip with an open design. This open layout allows you to get a firm, two-handed hold when you need extra leverage to break through tough soil. When the job is done, the shovel collapses down to a closed length of 9.37 inches, extending out to an overall length of 2 feet when fully deployed.
Because this is a compact folding tool, its full extended length is only 2 feet, which means you will be working close to the ground rather than standing upright. Additionally, the listing does not mention an included carry pouch or sheath, so you may need to plan how to pack the serrated head among other gear.
Verdict: This folding spade is a solid, dependable choice for campers, hunters, and gardeners who need a strong, packable digging tool with a serrated edge. It is ideal for anyone looking to save pack space without sacrificing a sturdy steel blade.
