Step 2. Bloom the coffee grounds

Step 3. Pour water and brew the coffee
Pour the water slowly in a circular motion until it reaches halfway up the filter. Don't forget the water temperature will be around 95 degrees Celsius.
When you see the foam forming on top of the ground, refill the water. Add the rest of the water to the brewer. Slow down the pour speed so that the water won't overflow.

Step 4. Let drip
The water will start dripping into the carafe. When almost water has drained through the filter, you will see the coffee grounds. Place the brewer on another mug to drain because the last coffee drops will be bitter.
The standard dripping time is about 2.5 to 3.5 minutes. If the water takes longer to drip through, you should pour faster the next time. If the water drains too fast, try to pour slower or use finer ground coffee.

Step 5. Enjoy
Pour the coffee from the carafe into a cup to enjoy. If you brew with a mug, let the coffee be slightly cooler before serving.
You can easily clean the brewer with hot water. The coffee ground can be reused to exfoliate or compost.
The differences between pour-over coffee vs drip coffee
Generally, both pour-over coffee and drip coffee use the percolation brewing method. However the pour-over method is manual, and the drip method uses an electric brewer. This causes many differences between a pour-over coffee and a drip coffee.
What are the differences between pour-over coffee and drip coffee?
Coffee quality
The quality of a coffee depends on the preference of each person. The pour-over method can bring the most variations of coffee. Because it is a manual method, you can easily customize it to make quality coffee.
However, when using the pour-over method, you need to have some skills and attention. You need to know the method for using the equipment properly, or your coffee will be terrible.
The quality of a pour-over coffee will depend on how well you make it. You may have to try several times to find the best way to make your coffee. And each time you make it, the coffee may have a different taste.
So, if you don't have time or patience, a drip coffee maker will be a better choice. It will give you the same quality coffee each time you make it.
Control
With a drip brewer, you can only control the coffee quantity and the grounds-to-water ratio. But with the pour-over method, you will control the pour speed, water temperature, and brew time.
Water temperature is an important factor in making good coffee. Coffee is ideal when made with a water temperature between 90-95 degrees Celsius.
If you make pour-over coffee, you can manage the water temperature with a kettle. But most electric drip brewers can't reach this temperature. So, the quality of a drip coffee is often poorer than a pour over coffee.
You can also customize the taste of a pour-over coffee by adjusting the pour speed and brew time.
Pouring fast will shorten the brew time and make the coffee taste weaker. Slowing down the pour speed will result in a stronger and bitter coffee.
On the other hand, the shower heads of most electric drip brewers are inconsistent. Thus, the water can't cover entirely the coffee grounds and makes the coffee imbalanced and unsatisfying.
Time
If you use an electric drip coffee maker, your work is simple. You need to add the water, coffee grounds, and filter, then press a button. Your coffee will be ready after some minutes.
However, the pour-over method requires more preparation and attention to make a coffee. You will have to keep attention to every step. So, you will need more time for a pour-over coffee.
Durability
In terms of durability, drip brewers are less durable than pour-over brewers. Electric drip brewers often have problems after 2 to 3 years of use.
Conversely, pour-over brewers can last a lifetime if you take care of them. Made of stainless steel, glass, or ceramic, these brewers are very durable. Therefore, choose a pour-over brewer if high durability is what you are looking for.
Cleanliness
It is very easy to clean coffee stains on pour-over brewers. They have a simple structure and their materials allow you to clean them with ease.
But a drip coffee machine includes many parts. Thus, you can't clean it thoroughly without disassembling it. And the places that are hard to clean will be ideal environments for bacteria.
